Hopefully this will distract people from whatever thread they do not
like at the moment.
This morning I finished my compulsory education. I received my final
report (grades - well, I'll say nothing, because I don't like bragging
:-) and two diplomas (one for "spirit of enterprise, persistence and
socialness" and the other for "special skills in mathematics,
literature and French".)
Then I was in a very long and nice party...
...celebrating my brother's passing of the matriculation examination.
But I regret nothing!

Puppies will eat just about anything. You can check the truth of this
when they bring it all back up again, all over the carpet.

Actually, I thought the poster meant "give birth to a puppy," which leads
all sorts of places I'm sure we don't want to go.

Oh... yes.
My SO has a 10-12-week-old Pit Bull puppy, and they've been staying at my
house recently. The little monster does chew on anything that interests him
and I presume eats some of it, but he hasn't regurgitated any of it yet. He
*does* leave other deposits on the carpet, though.

Okay, E.S., simply wishing you conga-rats wasn't enough for me and the Boys,
so the Skippys will be singing a special song for you. (A large number of
ferrets, dressed in caps and gowns, come filing in and arrange themselves in
four rows as a choir. There seems to be an empty space at one end of the
front row.)
Paul: All right, where's Skippy? He was told when to be here -
(Skippy, wearing a straw hat and carrying a bamboo cane, comes tap-dancing
in from Stage Left, singing.)
"First you get down on your knees,
Fiddle with your rosaries,
Bow your head with great respect,
And -"
(Skippy gets down on one knee.)
"- genuflect, genuflect, genu-"
Paul: Excuse me?
Skippy: -flect? (Looks up at Paul.) What?
Paul: Not the right song for the occasion.
Skippy: Aw, c'mon, boss! It's a great song! All bright, cheerful, you can
dance to it.
Paul: True, but not appropriate for a graduation, unless it's from the
Seminary, and I don't think that applies for E.S. (Hands Skippy a cap and
gown.) Now put this on and get in place.
Skippy: Aw. all right. (Puts straw hat and cane to one side, pulls gown on,
places mortarboard on his head and takes his place in the choir. As Paul
walks away, Skippy sticks his tongue out at his back.)
(Paul stand in front of choir, takes up baton, and conducts Skippys as they
begin to sing.)
Bright college days, oh, carefree days that fly,
To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high.
Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls
Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered halls.
Turn on the spigot,
Pour the 'tone and swig it,
And gaudeamus igit-ur.
Here's to parties we tossed,
To the games that we lost,
We shall claim that we won them some day.
To the jills young and sweet,
To the spacious back seat
Of our cagemate's beat up Chevrolet.
(Paul frowns and holds up his hand, and the Skippy choir stops singing,
except for one voice at the end of the front row. Paul walks down to that
end and listens as Skippy, his eyes closed and oblivious to everything
around him, sings.)
"Get in line in that processional,
Step into that small confessional.
There the guy who's got religion'll"
Paul: *Ahem*!
"Tell you if your sin's - huh?"
(Skippy looks up at Paul, looks around at the rest of the choir, and looks
back at Paul and smiles weakly. Paul smiles back - not so weakly - then
walks back to his place in front of the choir. Skippy sticks his tongue out
at Paul's back.)
(The choir resumes singing under Paul's guidance.)
To the 'tone and Benzedrine,
To the way that the dean
Tried so hard to be pals with us all.
To excuses we fibbed,
To the papers we cribbed
From the genius who lived down the hall.
To the tables down at Morey's -
Small voice at back: - wherever that may be!
(Paul looks around, but doesn't see the culprit. He shrugs his shoulders and
continues to conduct the choir.)
Let us drink a toast to all we love the best.
We will sleep through all the lectures,
And cheat on the exams,
And we'll pass, and be forgotten with the rest.
Oh, soon we'll be out amid the cold world's strife.
Soon we'll be sliding down the razor blade of life.
(Several Skippys turn green around the gills and stagger away, while a
handful faint.)
Paul (to audience): Fortunately, I planned for some backup.
(Several more Skippys, dressed in cap and gown, come in from Stage Right,
replace all the incapacitated Skippys, and the choir resumes singing.)
But as we go our sordid sep'rate ways,
We shall ne'er forget thee, thou golden. college. days.
(Paul looks around and discovers that someone's missing from one end of the
front row. He frowns and looks around.)
(Skippy, wearing his straw hat and carrying his cane again, comes
tap-dancing in from Stage Left, stops and gets down on one knee and sings
the last lines.)
"Hearts full of youth,
Hearts full of truth,
Six parts gin to one part vermouth!"
(Paul stares at Skippy, who just grins right back at him. Paul sighs and
shakes his head.)
Paul: E.S., congratulations again on completing your education. I - no, *we*
wish you the best of good fortune in the future.
(All the Skippys toss their mortarboards in the air, then frantically
scatter as gravity does the inevitable. You can get hurt by a falling
mortarboard.)
Paul - who just got the urge, you know?
"Bright College Days" and "The Vatican Rag" by Tom Lehrer, who else?

Oh, dear...
Actually, there are no RealLife ferrets around here. I just honestly don't
feel confident that I can give them the proper care they deserve right now.
The Cannon Crew is product of my inagination, and I'm not sure that counts.
I have no idea how this guy would do around ferrets. He plays a bit rough
sometimes. However, my ex's Rottweiler shared his household with the little
weasels, and had no problems, so you never know.

I thought it was mauve? Or is that lavender?
At $14 for either of the adult and kid versions, it isn't bad.
Pic of the adult version here:

Speking of hats... if I were going to the con, which I ain't[1], I'd be

Actually I'd have to classify it as Goofy Grape. ;)

You obviously make better use of your spare time than I. :)

If ain't ain't a word, then what is it? I mean there it is right there on
the page doing the job intended... I think it's even in the dictionary now.
I ain't gonna go look though. I'ma gonna go to bed so I can get up early
and go to a teacher workshop where I would give fourteen dollars if I could
go with a duck hat on my head. It would only improve things I am certain.

I looked up some pages about ferrets after reading about your crew. I'd
never thought of them as a serious pet option before. It's something to
think about one day when I will be sadly cat and dog free. My cat is V.
old, so I have to face that the day will come. I don't think I've ever
known anyone around here to have ferrets though. I knew the Crew were
imaginary, but I thought they may have real life alter ego's.

Murphy and Sammy are based on some characters I created for my Rainbow
Bridge stories (at my personal website - www.geocities.com/pauljmsn ). I
borrowed them for the first birthday salutes on another froup entirely, and,
like Topsy, just growed. Max is actually based on a real-life ferret named
Bear, a one-time permanent resident in a shelter up in Oregon. I was always
impressed with Bear's positive attitude to life; he never let something as
minor as hind-end paralysis get him down. And when he got his very own set
of wheels he went happily nuts - if he could, I'm sure he would have made
the *VROOOOOMMM!* noise while he was rolling around. Alas, both Oregon
shelter and Bear are no longer with us. The character Max was created in
Bear's honor, and I'd like to think he has the same cheerful demeanour.
If you ever do decide to let ferrets into your life, let me know and I'll
point you to some good info.

I will be away for a few days. Thanks for all the replies. I'll post
again on this topic when I get the news about the senior high school I
applied for.

Yes, I think I understand why one might not want to see that.
